Hi,

Do you listen to Kestrel?

If you don't we'd be intrested to hear why, and what you think Kestrel could improve upon and maybe even convert you into a listener!

If you do listen we'd still be intrested to hear your thoughts too.

Kestrel FM are looking for people to take part in a series of listener panel meetings at the studios in Festival Place. Would you like to have your say about Basingstoke's radio station? If you'd like to take part please email studio@kestrelfm.com

Thank you.
Crikey, is it still going? Sad
I never knew there was a kestrel FM.

But i have not lived in Basingstoke long. Will put my radio on when i have finished my work and have a listen.
I was only joking really in my last post, but as 'Kestral FM' has always competed with the superior 'two-ten-fm' then it will always be the loser.
If only they catered for the rest of the listening public then things would be balanced better.

Me? I listen to LBC 97.3 almost exclusively nowadays, but then I would wouldn't I, if you knew me that is? Tongue

Only when I want to be reminded of how radio should not sound and need to feel like Im old.
KISS is my preferred choice, it mashes up nicely with the odd burst of an overture from Classic FM.
I don't listen to it either. Why? Because it's primarily a pop music station. Nothing wrong with that: just not my cup of tea. My listening is about 75% Radio 4, then the other 25% made up from Radio 2, Radio 3, and Classic FM (in no particular order). Oh, and about 1% Radio 7 (if there's really nothing on elsewhere I'll look at the digital listings Big Grin).

Okay, so Kestrel also covers local news topics (I assume) but there's nothing going on in Basingstoke that I can't wait for the Gazette to tell me (if it's really big then regional TV news will have it).
Radio 1 for me or BBC2 on a Saturday morning (Mr Ross). I find Kestrel has to many adverts and they play the same songs over and over which are a bit to old for my taste. Smile
radio 2 for me

There are a few things they could do to improve it:
1) Sack all the staff - especially the old farts that drag it down
2) Change the music policy
3) Find some relevant local news and events
4) Rename it, it's one of Basingstoke's most embarrassing possessions

What they are likely to do
1) Start a listeners panel so people think they care and as a lame attempt to engage locals
2) Record some cruddy new jingles in a discount cheese factory (using in-house voices)
3) Buy a new Texas & Phil Collins album 'Greatest Hits Remixed'
4) Reorder the day with the same old tired crew
5) Buy a Basingstoke map so they can familiarize themselves with the town
6) Join this website so they can keep up to date with local news and gossip
If they promised to do one thing?
Stop ruining local events - please stay away from them. The presentation is so poor, both technically and personally, people range from staying away to wanting to throw things at them.

I love radio myself, have done since I was a kid. No matter how many times I've tried to be objective about Kestrel by listening to it, it has always filled me with a deep deep depression. Kestrel is like working at BT. Nobody listens to you.
LOL... Don't beat about the bush, Daniel: tell 'em what you really think!
