Seamatt, anyone hiding behind a pseudonym to post abusive comments should be either named & shamed or removed from the forum. I say give them one warning & then act, allowing them to continually post abusive comments gives the impression you do not care about the forum members who are responsible & act so.
I for one do not appreciate seeing abusive comments against anyone & feel I don’t need to have to see their bullying in the threads.
Abaddon, I can see where you are coming from but reacting to abusive posts does no good. Thanks to you and others for the support though.
I am not bothered by anything that Dulla has posted and I PMed seamatt and asked him to let it stand if he was happy to do so. I post robustly; not everyone likes that. Fine, they don't have to. The other people that Dulla posted about are also not shrinking violets who can't handle someone else having a different opinion. Remember people have the right to not like other people and to say that they don't like them.
On the one hand, I can see how some people might think it is not nice to read; on the other hand, the view counts of such threads are usually high so they at least entertain some people and are therefore a boost for forum ratings.
You can use your settings in private messages to add anyone you don't like to your ignore list if you are offended by reading their posts. I guess a few people will be ignoring me from now on.
It is a difficult judgement as to where to draw the line as to what is acceptable and what is not, what is abusive and what is not, what breaches forum rules and what just about keeps within them, especially as different readers will have different levels of sensitivity. Seamatt does a great job and it will not be possible to please everybody all of the time. I know he does care about this forum and all the members.
It's amazing how often this subject comes up and usually helps to clear the air I reckon. It saves us boiling over if we all know where we stand and it also adjusts the fine line we sometimes cross to make a point, or influence others we feel are talking a load of rubbish.
I have often crossed that line as some will remember, but I hope we all learn from such actions and also, hopefully enjoy.
Some people just don't know when to stop though and don't know how to join in intelligent conversations at all. I wonder why they bother sometimes?
Abuse of ANY sort is not to be tolerated. We teach our children to name & shame any bully at school so why do we tolerate it here on the forum?
By giving the real world name of the bully they no longer have the cloak of anonymity that they find so comforting.
So as the song says WHO ARE YOU?
You should be in the Houses of Parliament or our local council chamber when they let fly Abaddon? They know the opposition but give as good as they take. It's what democracy is all about.
You know what they say: "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the frying pan."
Sooooooooooo... Abaddon ventures forth and finds out who the troll is and all about him.
He then posts what he has found out on B/stoke on Line (Seamatts site).
1 of the things about Mr troll is untrue so he takes the site (ie Seamatt) to court and wins an apology from him and is awarded compensation.
note it Seamatt in trouble not Abaddon
Hang on hasn`t something like this just been in all the papers and on telly?
Oh yeah I remember ......
Max Mosely.... versus.... The Screws of the World.
Sound a bit risky doing anything localy to my mind unless you are 125% certain of your facts and Seamatt is willing to stick his neck out.

Many people prefer anonymity on the internet where their posts can be read by anyone. You don't post under your real name, nor do I, nor do many regular posters. We cannot have one rule for one person and one for another. If we post one person's real name, surely we should post everyone's real name. What exactly would that achieve?
At school, kids are taught to ignore unpleasant remarks and that is exactly what we should do here. Responding, especially starting a whole thread, just rewards the troll with more attention. Remember the saying 'don't feed the troll'.
Our troll can post pleasantly under his other name and I, for one, hope he will stay on the forum posting under his other account. I guess he just needed to let off steam. He isn't posting now and no harm has been done. I say let it drop rather than fuel the fire.
Am I the only one NOT using an alias I wonder? I don't believe it's important, but it made life a tad difficult when everyone changed their names during the changeover.
I felt everyone wanted to hide their identity from me, so I had to find out who was who. So don't talk to me about trolls, many of you do it from time to time.

Agreed 100%, i'm not going to "name and shame" it's not an option.

By doing so he would be breaking the terms and conditions of registering!!!! So don't go down that route.
