Does anyone else find the speed limit signs on the duel carriage way from Victory roundabout towards Morrisons confusing. There is a 30mph sign, then a 50mph sign (presumably should be covered up), then another 30mph sign, then a voluntary 20mph sign.

Could they not cover up the 50mph signs while the restrictions are in place and make a decision as to whether to lower the limit to 20mph or 30mph.

Also, does anyone have any idea what is being built there and how much longer it will take? I thought it was a right turn and a bus stop but I can't work out what is going on. Are there any plans available?
the speed limits along there are a bit daft aren't they, the signs say the work is for 26 weeks starting mid july Sad
As far as I am aware they are fitting traffic lights for access to the new housing they are building.

Most of the time there's no workings there and no guys working either. I'm noticed that out of working hours most drivers are totally ignoring the speed limits. I don't suppose these contractors can be bothered to remove the signs when they go home. It just shows how they feel about motorists doesn't it?

I would say that was inaccurate, I've been through there most days over the last two weeks and I would say there was work going on all day.

Why would they take the signs down, one of the reasons for having the signs there is because the road layout has changed and it is not suited to 50mph. In Florida if you break the speed limit in road works you will recieve a fine however if you are caught speeding while a work force is on site the fine is doubled.
I was talking about the North road, west to east Seamatt where all the roadworks are either finished or not started. Obviously the other side is all coned off as it has been for weeks. Maybe you just haven't travelled along there lately.
This morning I just joined the queue all doing 50mph and there was a police vehicle in the entrance to the new estate.
I looked again today and either I was mistaken about the first sign or it had changed as the first sign is actually 40mph.

What I did find weird was that the voluntary 20mph was attributed to 'narrow lanes' yet the structure causing the narrow lanes is a permanent traffic island, so will this stretch be 20mph permanently when the roadworks are finished? Hopefully not! With huge grass verges, I would hope they would make an extra lane in addition to the lane for turning right so the traffic can keep moving.
What is the roundabout called by the Holiday Inn in Black Dam. The last roundabout as you head out to Alton.

Anyway the reason i ask this is have you seen the work that they have done on it? Trust me this will cause chaos. They seem to of shortened it in size which basically means traffic coming from Alton can have a clear run at it...travel at speed in a straight line and head towards Hackwood Road Roundabout.

A) Accident to happen
B) Traffic coming from Brighton Hill direction will back right up as there will be no gaps in the traffic as you look right onto the roundabout at peak hours.

You heard it here first.
That does sound ridiculous though I haven't seen it for myself. What on earth is that meant to achieve?

It's another roundabout that is extremely difficult to get around. As usual the authorities have made changes with little expert input.
They should ask the motorists who spend a large proportion of their lives stuck in the queues that are inevitable with such a high volume of traffic - twice a day! The main solution would be to reduce that volume, by modifying underused adjacent roads.

Maybe join the Alton Road to the M3 roundabout, South of the motorway. Things are only going to get a lot worse in the future, so drastic plans must be made now.....
