But we have a "special" relationship with the States - me I find it tedious beyond belief and seems to last for ever!!! And what significance speeches by spouses have is beyond me

No, I didn't put a vote thingy up because I wanted to see at what level the interest was?
You're right bea, the rest of Europe or even the rest of the world gets less coverage than the American version.
Let's face it though, if enough wealthy people back you, and the relevant media outlets find you 'interesting enough' then you've virtually won.
It's nothing to do with your ability to lead/run a country properly or the fact that you've got a squeaky clean background - it's all down to money, and enough 'high-level' influence to hoodwink the gullible public, and BOY! are the public super-gullible?!

People should be very interested in what happens in America given its status as fading global hegemon. We are in the NATO alliance with them and with Russia / China flexing their new-found muscle the next ten / twenty years are going to be very interesting - given the dwindling supply of resources the earth has to offer.

I'll be interested to hear the result of the presidential election.

It solves nothing by playing their silly games and then virtually ignoring our daft election process. Few people take any notice of either.

Of course. That is utterly boring.

Is anyone else really excited and feeling a great wave of relief that the world will be a much greater place now that Bush has gone (or is going in a couple of months) I have a great feeling of optimism that things are "gonna get better"

Depends how much power the president actually has or whether it is indeed run by "advisors".
I doubt we'll notice much difference to be honest.
