Basingstoke is lacking in Public Toilets Ok I know is been mentioned in another thread. However when looking into something else it occurred to me how badly served we were especially in popular outdoor facilities where there is no option to pop into commercial premises.

Basingstoke Toilets listed on Council web-site as follows

Castons Yard, off New Road, Basingstoke
New Road , next to Red Lion Lane , Basingstoke
Kempshott, off Old Down Close, Kempshott
Stratton Park , by the Pavilion, off Pack Lane, Kempshott
Worting Road Cemetery , Worting Road, Basingstoke ..... thats it

Surely we should have more?

No mention of the inconvenient ones in Memorial park... Its taken me years to find but yes there is one I discovered it recently. Its in the Changing Room Pavilion on the sports field side of Memorial Park, not sure if they are technically 'Public' and if they have baby changing facilities etc. They are open when the Pavilion is. This is useful to know as its nearer to the play park than the next nearest at New Road, having said that its still a jaunt for parents with younger children.

Black Dam Ponds Park doesn't have any and I'm not sure about facilities for casual visitors to the Down Grange Sports Facility and other parks

If the above is true than complain to the police or council we will only get the service we deserve when we become more proactive and keep the service providers on there toes.

The loos in Old Down Close, (near the Kestrel pub in Kempshott) aren't open in the evenings/or the weekend. Don't know about the other one's but I'm guessing they are only open 9-5 Mon-Fri as well.

I'm sure I saw something in the local press/news about the council had been ordered to provide more facilities....... I'll try and find it.
Hay I just found these guys - a lobby groub for better loos.

We certainly don't have enough public toilets around.

There is obviously demand after pubs have shut, yet the few we have close in the early evening. In Andover, I have seen single toilets that looked like a tardis. You paid 20p to go in and it somehow cleaned itself after use. Why can't we have some of these so that they could be available 24 hours a day? Because they are single toilets instead of lines of cubicles, it would be less likely to attract lewd behaviour.

As well as one side of the top of town, the bottom of town around Wilkinsons and the railway station is also lacking in toilets. Sainsburys have toilets but they are not public and unlike most shops which are helpful, these toilets are kept locked with the keys for customers only. This means that parents with young children have to try to get them to hold on all the way to the Festival Place toilets - no so easy for a small child.

Didn't there used to be loos down some steps outside woolies years ago? I suppose for those self cleaning loos the question would be wear to site them and as for kids needing the loo I remember those days - they always wait till they're busting before needing to go Rolleyes
You forgot the ones over at Down Grange.

Loos bring - graffitti, yobs, undesirables, drug dealers, lewd behavious, dodgy smells oh and about 0.15% of the Basingstoke population who needs them.
In the netherlands they have toilet cylinders that are buried in the ground that emerge automatically after a certain time at night at the weekends so the pub leavers can have a leak. Obviously the men only, poor women have to suffer. They then disappear again magically during the night.

Theyve got quite disturbing habits over there... you see people peeing up against the wall at anytime of the day in the middle of the town centre! I've seen it twice so it must happen quite a bit.
I like seeing the women crouch behind the town centre waste bins. Not in a pervee way tho lol

It just goes to prove that there is a demand for more loos and loos that are open 24 hours a day.

There are solutions out there to the problems of lewd behaviour etc with the single person cubicle loos that clean themselves (and you if you stay in a ridiculously long time).

We are meant to be a civilised society yet we have people urinating in public due to lack of facilities. This is so unhygienic and bothers me far more than grafitti or other anti-social behaviour.

We have people urinating in public places because they are oiks - even with more loos it would continue, especially where drink is involved. I agree we probably need more loos but sadly we will still get the anti-social behaviou. Blimey people cant be bothered to use litter bins even those within a few feet of where they are.
Whether it is litter bins or loos, I think that if there are enough of them so that they are convenient to use (sorry about the pun), then people will use them. It is when people have to carry litter for a long way or struggle to walk with their legs crossed that it is tempting to just use the street.
