St. Michael’s Hospice is introducing a new annual event to its fund-raising calendar on Friday 31st October ─ a ‘Spooktakular Walk’ in the grounds of the War Memorial Park in Basingstoke. The event is kindly being sponsored by Sainsbury’s Depot and Glass Centre.

Supporters will walk the 0.7 mile circuit around the War Memorial Park bringing participants into contact with a ghost train, children’s rides, Walls Fun Fair, and candy floss, toffee apple and catering stalls. The walk will set off at 6.30pm, with the last walkers setting off no later than 7pm. For some added fun, fancy dress is optional, but there will be some fabulous prizes for the best dressed. Back in the main park, there will also be a story teller from Waterstones to keep the entire family engrossed.

“This will be a ‘spooktakularly’ entertaining evening for the whole family,” says organiser Pat Darty. “Our slogan is ‘get trick or treat off the street’.”

The Spooktakular Walk is a sponsored event so people are encouraged to raise as much in sponsorship as they can, there are some fantastic ‘Spooky’ prizes for collecting £10, £15, £20 and £25 worth of sponsorship. Sponsorship monies need to be in by 28th November in order to qualify for the Spooky prizes.

“This is a new event in St. Michael's Hospice calendar and will be lots of fun for all the family. Each year our annual running costs rise and so we need to ensure that we find new ways to generate the £1.6 million which we must fundraise each year to enable us to continue providing care to local people with a life-limiting illness. We hope that the local community will support this event to make it a huge success and a regular feature in the St. Michael's Hospice event calendar” said David Gibbins, Chief Executive at St. Michael's Hospice.

Visit our events page to register or download your entry and sponsorship form. The cost is £6 per adult and £3 per child, but families of four can enter for £15. You may register on the night, from 6pm.

Other companies supporting the event include Party Works and Waterstones for which St. Michael's Hospice are very grateful.

Sounds like a good idea - chance to avoid the demanding goods with menaces aka trick or treat

0.7 miles! Will that get them all the way around the park? Tongue

Talk about commercialisation. And I thought the speaking clock was bad! Fund raising event sponsored by Walls Fun Fair. It takes the kids right past the rides just in case they haven't already had the opportunity to pester their parents already.

I do hope that Walls Fun Fair are making a generous donation to the hospice.

I see your point but anything that keeps some of the little gits from banging on my door is no bad thing
I'm afraid I'll have to give this event a miss - too spooky for me!
