Vote for Basingstoke?

I've just read this from the Baz Gaz:

Let's get this right, we are encouraged to vote for her because she comes from Basingstoke? I thought it was a beauty contest, not a town contest. Surely we need to see the other competitors before we judge who to vote for? She may be pretty and if I was in to beauty contests (which I'm not) then I may be tempted to vote but not before I'd seen the rest of the runners.

Before we vote on the grounds that she is from here perhaps she should be telling us what she is going to do for the people of Basingstoke if she wins. In my very limited experience of models they are motivated by vanity and self interest - though I'm prepared to admit I'm wrong in her case if anyone has any evidence to the contrary.

Just like those baby picture contests in the Gazette, and all them parents cueing up in town centre with their little ones to have picture taken - its a waste of time!!
