My cat has been missing for about 3 days - it's a long-haired tortoishell

I have noticed that in the last week, two other people have put up signs in the area, reporting missing cats - both of which are tortoishell, like mine. One is almost identical - all in an area of a few hundred meters square.

Coincidence?

I suppose it might be something to do with the 'travelling community', but surely there are enough hedgehogs to feed them aren't there?

Excuse the title but i would like to bring to peoples attention what i found in Maplins today!CLICK HERE!

I had a word with the bloke in store and read the back of the box and basically it is legal for anyone to buy and use one of these without any need for anything like a licence. It tracks all aircraft in the air via radar to your PC screen and gives all details about the aircraft and speed and altitude etc. How is something like this legal? if i was a terrorist i could use this to help plan attacks etc! you can also buy a directory! CLICK HERE!
If these products fell into the wrong hands surely they could be used to harm?

we recived cards to fill in and send back to the council on what we feel is needed on the poets, then last week a meeting to talk about a residents association, dont get me wrong but i have been asking for a residents club for years now but keep getting fobed off with they will not put one on popley poets as popley have enough of these community centres. yes they do but not on the poets, lets say i want to go to popley fields club by the bus thats fine but to get back home i would need to go into town and then get a bus back. As for a residents association this is a load of P.R when the elections are over they will yet again leave the poets high and dry. they said what would you like to see the main thing is that council and county get off their back sides and come to the poets, i have invited them to come and i will take them round. i asked for a small pay area in the dell only to be told first the materials were no good (that was rubbish) then the next time of asking it would cost £200,000 rubbish as most of the work would have been done free by the contactors building on the regeneration site. Then we are told the next time we can not do it as you have enough play areas, we have one that the little ones can play in and they cant do that because it is so dangerous with glass and rubbish all over the place. then the next thing was kids could run into the road, if they were to have listerned to the way it was going to be done a small fence could have been put along this strech of the road to stop them. but to again beat this they say it is to close to the houses it is no nearer than the other play area in fact it might be a bit further away from the and as kids play there now what they are saying again is rubbish. it all boils down to who shouts the most gets the cash, and who knows who. Cant they understand that kids have played in this area ever since the estate was built and the kids have run into the road after a ball for years. so in other words the answer would be NO. no matter what you try to do to help the community. they may knock on doors saying we will do this and that but in truth they will do sod all for the run down estate that it is now, my wife pointed this out the other day when she said it has gone down the pan if the council can not bother with the poets then so the resident will not care for it, we will still see dirt every place you look. i did say on another site what it looked like but i leave it to you to work out with S hole.

We all from time to time get caught up in our busy lives and our striving for better things and we often hear many talk about 'making progress' in life. Often this is all about material things, consumerable items etc. But there is a body of scientists and others making serious attempts in various parts of the globe to measure 'the happiness levels' of towns, villages, countries etc. Just one google search on the topic will bring up these projects.

Bhutan for example is conducting a national project measuring gross national happiness [this is ongoing]. Apparently this was stimulated by the King of Bhutan reading an Indian newspaper article in 1979 entitle 'gross national happiness is more important than gross national product'

today there are many international projects and conferences attempting to measure similiar things. Which lead me to think would it not perhaps be useful if there were some social scientists around Hampshire that were interested in doing the same thing. Measuring it is one thing of course. But that is just the beginning -once the results are out what to do with them? but it would be rather interesting - and different hampshire towns, villages and suburbs could be compared on a 'hampshire happiness scale' - what fun and happiness could come!

here's one site I found of many:
http://www.oecd.org/dataoecd/14/61/41577409.pdf

It's been my opinion that B&D would be better off as a unitary authority for a long time. A large portion of the country has gone this route already and the benefits seem to outweigh the drawbacks.

At the very least it will make our elected councillors more visible, local and accountable.

And it will do away with a whole layer of government!

As a toddler, my daughter nearly died of chicken pox. She spent 3 weeks in hospital including 4 days in an adult intensive care unit and only came home so soon because it was Christmas eve. All because some irresponsible idiot of a mother brought her kid to mother and toddler group with chicken pox because she had decided that 'its better if they get it before they start school'.

I later had my kids vaccinated abroad. It seems the government are now considering introducing the vaccine in the UK but the biggest barrier seems to be parents reluctance to have kids vaccinated following the MMR scare. Surely it should at least be made available to those parents who want to have their kids vaccinated?

I have a mixture of various types of energy-saving light bulbs.

I have some that at like a spiral. They come on quickly, give excellent light and fit in a light shade but I cannot find them above 60w equivalent.

I have some long ones shaped like 3 arches which come on fairly quickly and give excellent light but protrude from my light shades and don't fit in my glass light shades.

I have some that are light bulb-shaped and they fit in my light shades and look really good but they take forever to warm up and give poor light.

I prefer the fit and appearance of the bulb-shaped light bulbs but they are just not doing the job.

Has anyone else found this? Perhaps it is because I bought a cheap deal from Tesco. Has anyone bought bulb-shaped energy-saving light bulbs that work really well? Is it worth paying more for an expensive brand?

Hiya

I've been thinking about doing this song at an open mic in Basingstoke in the near future. I just love this song!

I'm looking for people who would like to join me and make this possible. I'm not quite sure what all the instruments are called that have been used in this song, but if you have a look on youtube for Ya Rayah - Rachid Taha (the live version) you should get an idea. I don't play an instrument so I would do the singing (lead).

It would be great to get a mix of people together (I'm German by the way). It would help if at least one of you could speak the language, because I don't and need some help with the lyrics.

Post here or send me a privat message if you are up for some fun!.

As the thread title says my wheelie bin has gone missing, either some twonk has taken it for a walk and left it miles away or someone has inadvertently taken mine instead of theirs. The problem being the dustmen, sorry that should be “refuse collectors”, don't return the emptied bin to your property, they drag them all up to the collection point and leave them there creating a huge obstruction on the pavement. I remember when they used to enter your garden, collect the bin and then return it. Anyway, hopefully my bin will reappear on our next collection day, if not has anyone else had their bin nicked and is it a quick and painless procedure to get a new one from the council?

Robert May - 66%, Cranborne - 44%, Fort Hill - 44% and Brighton Hill - 59%. So I agree about Cranbourne and Fort Hill but I'd be more than happy with Robert May - you will no doubt give your reasons.

Value added is all very well if a pupil struggled at primary level. But if your child is above average ability then I'd concentrate on the schools that offered the highest likelihood of achiveing good GCSEs and lots of them. Happiness in education is important but let's not overlook the whole point of it.
I agree with your views on NVQs - after a bit of exposure to them I've always seen them as a qualification in photocopying!

There have to be grounds for exclusion and the process is monitored by Ofstead. Not being able to pass an exam would not constitute a good enough reason - there would have to be something else.

Besides if excluding more kids means results improve then it only proves that the idiots who deserve to be thrown out are the ones that drag everyone else's education down. Let's concentrate on the achievers for once.

If a school had a reputation for high exclusion rates I'd put that down as a positive thing when I was looking. The only people who would be alarmed at that are ones who's kids are more likely to get excluded.

You are right about the grounds for exclusion and that pupils cannot be excluded for not being able to pass exams. The trouble is that different schools interpret the rules differently and some do not seem to even try to stick to the rules.

The rules say that pupils should be permanently excluded as a last resort when all avenues of external help have been exhausted. To take this literally, if a pupil is extremely violent and regularly injures other pupils and staff, the school should look at employing a support worker to accompany the child at all times for the safety of others, consider teaching the pupil separately within the school, liaise with the health service so that the child is seen by mental health professionals and also liaise with the GP re the possibility of using medical sedatives to make the child safe at school. Only when all this has been tried and tested should a pupil be permanently excluded.

I have heard of pupils being excluded for uniform offences (which should never happen) and for trivial things. One example was 'theft' - the pupil removed a drawing pin from a wall display and fiddled with it. He was offered no opportunity to return it but excluded for theft.

Excluded pupils tend to end up in schools like Everest with below average GCSE results. Schools like Robert May tend to exclude low achievers. What I would like to see is a system of fair swap - if you exclude a pupil, their place goes to the next excluded pupil in the county. Unlike the voluntary system of managed moves, that would deter so-called 'good' schools from using exclusions to boost their league table status. Every child need to be taught somewhere.

OK, let's be honest here - this is nothing to do with rationing just price! Another case of the Baz Gaz either getting the story wrong or just not understanding English.

There's lots of issues here and I have different views on all of them.

Firstly every house should have a meter - it's the only fair way overall.

Secondly, they shouldn't charge more in the summer to discourage use. However setting a benchmark on winter use and then charging more for use over that benchmark in the summer would be more fair.

Lastly - why us again? If we have to have the housing forced upon us why make us pay extra? Surely the fairer way is to say 'poor old north hampshire having the building forced on them by an unelected regional assembly, let them have a rebate in the winter and then pay the same as everyone else in the summer'. It'll never happen.
