Festive Vent Your Spleen 2009
Seeming as the coke lorries are now on screen, lets vent our festive spleens! I have one to start off with.

Buying a Wii game for a xmas prezzie from HMV for £39.99, only to walk into sainsburys to find it for £15! They wouldnt let me return it, even after I told them it was financial extortion!

I would have alerted their next customer who was showing an interest in the game.

I keep hitting 'Escape' but I'm still here.

they should give you a refund. if you have a receipt and the wrapping has not been removed.- I'd speak to a manager.

They are only obliged to give you a refund if the goods are 'not fit for purpose'. As there is nothing wrong with them they are not.

I'm bored with Christmas Muzak in the shops - there is only so much Jonah Lewey a man can take!

They are only legally obliged if the goods do not meet the conditions in the sale of good act. However, many shops offer a more generous returns policy at this time of year to encourage people to buy something as a Christmas present knowing they can return it if the recipient does not like it. It might be worth trying again just after Christmas as an unwanted present. Wink

You'd be lucky to find any shop that will give cash back just because you don't like the goods. Some shops will offer a credit note if the goods are still pristine and packaged.

Many big retailers have their returns policy on the back of their receipts. HMV used to have a more generous policy but now only offer an exchange for unopened and unwanted purchases. The OP should have been offered an exchange - if you weren't complain.

People believe what they want to believe.

More and more shops are presenting vouchers instead of cash back. I am not sure I agree with this trend but at the same time these shops need to protect their income as much as any other business.

I wouldn't mind so much if administrators had to honour vouchers if the business goes into liquidation but the way the law is at present, you stand to lose your money so spend them as quickly as possible.
