Basingstoke barbers
My husband and I were having a wander around the town last Saturday, and mainly wished we hadn't. Neither of us particularly like Festival Place but sometimes nowhere else will do!! Anyway, to get back to the point, why have so many barbers and hair shops sprung up around the town. Is it a conspiracy? Or perhaps all the polish influx to the town has a haircut fetish? Does anyone know?

RE: Basingstoke barbers
Erm, perhaps because 95% of the Basingstoke population need a haircut and there is enough trade to go round? Good on them all i say, alot of these new places are independant salons and i think its great that they are filling alot of the empty units.

If you think Festival Place is bad then heaven knows what you (might have) thought of what was there beforehand. At least we have a semblence of a shopping centre now commensurate with the size of the town. It's not perfect and looks like many others but is infinitelty better than before.

And barbers/hairdressers makes a change from yet another opticians outlet

Actually I do remember what was there before Festival Place... What I meant was town on a Saturday when the world and his wife shop together, along with their adorable kids!! I have adorable kids of my own and would prefer not to shop with them on a Saturday.

RE: Basingstoke barbers
It does seem that more salons and barbers have opened in recent years - more than you might expect from the increase in the town's population. This suggests there must be increased demand and more people are having more hair treatments and more frequently.

The odd thing is the biggest increase in the town centre seems to have been in mens' barbers. They can't be making much money from dinosaurs like me who just go in for the occasional short back and sides. My barber reckons it is because young men are more into grooming these days and visit the barber more often. There is also the rise of the metrosexual who is into beauty treatments and maintaining their appearance.

People believe what they want to believe.
