Vantage Point

I saw the trailer for this the week before and it looked an intriguing and intelligent thriller around a group of terrorist attempting the assignation of a US president at a peace conference in Spain. Or is it?.

People get shot and blown up maimed and killed in the terrorist outrage. What is different about the film is the story is rewound and shown from eight different point of views, this is done six times but begins to pall after the fifth and sixth times.

The second half of the film reveals the twist in the story ( I didn't see it coming) At this stage the film is still holding me, but then quickly degenerates into a long muddled chase movie with a totally ludicrous ending. Baring in mind the terrorist have shoot and blown up loads of innocent people the ending is plain daft .... just watch out for the little girl trying to get to her mum (featured in one of the eight point of views)...... mummy mummy ! suddenly the ruthless master terrorist finds he has a heart.

A intelligent thriller to 'Airplane' in two halves I felt sold out, a waste of my little grey cells.

Love in the Time of Cholera

Set in Colombia with beautiful town and country landscapes. A fifty year saga of unfulfilled love Florentino Ariza, a telegraph boy, falls in love with Fermina Daza, the daughter of a rich mule trader. Ariza is persistent, writing to her constantly, serenading and speaking poetically of love. Under her father’s influence Fermina reject Florentino and marries a successful doctor. At first Florentino vows to remain a virgin but soon devotes much of his adult life to carnal affairs in a desperate attempt to heal his broken heart.

How long would you wait for love? Will there love be rekindled in there dotage?

This is a warm, atmospheric , funny, charming film with a little bit of spice. Two hours well spent. If you are into fast action then its not for you but if you like nuance and good dialogue and fantastic settings you may like it.

'Big Up' the Palace Cinema Alton

I went to see 'Love in the Time of Cholera' in Alton at a traditional cinema which from the outside looks rather like a ‘flea pit’ of old. However the the two screen cinema was a delight comfortable with good sound , adequate screen size and friendly staff.

If you want a night out away from the multiplex centres and the big town I can recommend Alton. A great little town with some great pubs, restaurants, a high street with some interesting shops and a cute bijou cinema.

I've just watched Batman Begins (Rated PG-13). Thought it was an excellent film. Lots of big name stars, some of whom I almost didn't recognize. Well acted & well scripted. The special effects are good but not OTT. A def must for any Batman or Christian Bale fan. For everyone else STILL a def must see. Wink

Last night I watched the Golden Compass and what a strange film it was. There was almost a mixture of past and future all at once.

There are many tricks and special effects which are nice but somehow taken for granted nowadays. I mean, a talking bear is real init?

Average acting and a weird storyboard, but generally entertaining if only for kids, bigger kids and the wonderful scenery.

Iron Man. Yet another in a long line of Marvel super heroes brought to life via the big screen. Thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Aeon Flux (2005) - Science fiction at it's best. Amazing story, I was gripped after the first 5 minutes.

Shell, if you like Aeon Flux. I recomend you watch Ultraviolet. It's an excellent film with more than a few twists & stars Milla Jovovich Tongue
