RE: Heroes and villains line up for the firework fiesta
What I saw of the display was good, we only lasted 5 minutes as the kids found it too loud and we had to go home. At least this year we actually managed to get to a display, I usually end up looking out of bedroom windows to see any fireworks.

As the layout was with the display being based by the playground, we got a brilliant view of the guys lighting the fuses and the fireworks without even having to pay to get in. We just stood on the field where the football goals were. I think we got the best view around, was the view from inside the perimeter fence slightly blocked by the trees by the path?

Well done Basingstoke

The only downside was I saw at least two people with dogs at the dispaly.

Good to hear you enjoyed it. We didn't go (for reasons prevuiously stated)

Thought Firework night was generally quite quiet - didn't seem to be so much happening as on previous years. Although there we some that seemed way too big for small gardens going off

fireworks were great as others have said but what happened to the music, from where we were standing we could barely hear anything that resembled music, just a low drone. We wern't stood that far away and there were many many more people behind us Sad I suppose it make a change to music that is so loud it is distorted

I firmly believe that dog owner have a responsibility to train their dogs to behave around fireworks just as their dogs should be trained around children etc. I always took our previous dog to the fireworks until he was too elderly to walk that far. He sat at my side and behaved immaculately. I am desperately trying to train our new dog to behave around fireworks. However, I have not got there yet and he is not ready to be taken to a public display as he is still barks and shakes although he is nowhere near so terrified as he was last year. I wasn't able to make it this year but I hope to be able to take him next year so long as he is ready. I don't see the problem with well trained dogs at firework displays under the proper control of their owners. I presume you are referring to badly behaved dogs, which are a nuisance in any situation.

Family of 5, 2 adults 3 kids over 16 = £30 in advance or £35 on the door. For parents on benefit that would be almost half their weekly allowance. Costs are relative.

Last year we spent £30 getting in and around the same again on the fair plus about £15 on food making it £75 for a family night out. At least if you take kids to a panto, the additional costs are limited to a small tub of ice-cream in the interval.

Yes, there were a few very loud fireworks being set off last night. I don't know where these people get these from but I reckon they're more 'military' than 'back garden' fireworks. I'm sure they're illegal ones.

Anyway, I hate to be a spoilsport but I hope it's all over for this year, and hope there's a lot less next year.

Your example of kids over 16 going to a display with their parents is not really a fair reflection of modern society Della, pretty unusual to be honest but good to see.

As you say, costs are relative and if your happy to pay for a small tub of ice cream at £2 a go when you can buy a litre size in the supermarket then things are not that bad really.

Prices this year compared to our own shows what good value for quality of display it was.
