RE: Festive Vent Your Spleen!
Long story and I can't post too many details as it is about a young lad who deserves his privacy but I found out around 5pm to day that a young lad in my sons class would be home alone for Christmas. He is 16 so it isn't exactly child neglect but I would not leave my son alone on Christmas Day at any age. He had bought himself a ready-meal and was planning to watch Dr Who. Anyway, I didn't find out until after the shops closed and now I am trying to make Christmas dinner go round one more (tonnes of turkey but sprouts might be a problem as most of my family don't like them so I didn't buy many) and scrabbling around for presents.
It is sad that anyone of any age would be alone on Christmas Day. It must be extra lonely, worse than any other day of the year. What kind of society do we live in where people are home alone at Christmas? |

RE: Festive Vent Your Spleen!
It is sad of course, but our lives don't always go as planned. Circumstances which we have little control of can change overnight. I used to have huge Christmases with everything and everyone seeming to be a guest in my house. Everything was happy and so busy and we only had one or two channels on the black & WHITE tv. The Queens message was the highlight of the day until 'Top of the Pops came along.
Sometimes I wished for a quieter Christmas Day where I could watch the telly in peace, and now I've got it. Sadly I don't want it now though, I'd rather be back then, when a small space on the floor was the only choice I'd have. All I can say is cherish every moment, because it can soon change. Well done Della for taking in this lad, I'm sure he won't forget your kindness some day, he might even invite you in one Christmas Day too, you never know........ |

That was a nice gesture Della.
I too was taken in by some kindly neighbours. There was a big family row in the morning which split Christmas three ways. I came back to my house expecting to have a lonely Christmas, when some neighbours invited me to join them. |

Aww, sorry to hear that Albert. It is such a pity that you didn't get to spend Christmas with your family. I hope that everyone has made up now and it is happy families again.
