RE: Primark Opens Tomorrow
funny enough i was watching something on telly the other morning about plastic bags and they said the amount of energy used to make paper bags was just as bad for the environment as plastic bags. so the best thing people can do is use bags that they buy and keep using them.

RE: Primark Opens Tomorrow
It's odd init? I'm a bloke and I do my shopping about once a week at Sainsburys up at Hatch Warren. I've been using the heavier/bigger bags for years now as I felt a bit guilty about using all those little ones. It's not a real problem reusing them week after week etc.

My only peeve is when I'm out and about, taking pictures, going to work or car boot sales etc, and then I suddenly remember I need to get some milk or bread or chocolate biscuits, like you do?
It's then that I have to use those little bags because my proper shopping bags are at home. That's my only real problem.

I don't object to using paper bags as long as they're strong enough? I see old films from the US where the good woman is left holding the bag whilst the contents were all over the road. One bit of dampness and they seem to turn to pulp, apparently.

Good idea Ness, but my pockets are usually full of hands. But, to avoid paying for new bags every time I pop in for something I'll have to think of some practical way of carrying my shopping home won't I?

RE: Primark Opens Tomorrow
I went yesterday, so nice not having to go to Reading now. I can't understand why the kids stuff and the lingerie are upstairs. My other half wanted to know why there's more women's than men clothing LOL. But for people on a budget it's the best store for clothing, i love it. I think the paper bags are great too. I'll be glad when the plastic bags are gone, i work at a diy store and give the choice of paper or carrier and i guess 90% go for the paper option.

Sometimes I do use a cloth bag but not often because I also reuse bags as bin liners and throw them out with the rubbish. My bin would get quite smelly if I didn't wrap rubbish before putting it out and that might attract rats. As I need bags to wrap rubbish, I would rather use a carrier bag that I am using anyway than buy special bin liners. They cost money and you still end up with the same number of bags in the bin. The Primark bags are OK bin liners except in the kitchen bin. I care about the environment but care more about the hygiene in my kitchen.

I still think Primark have done well to use paper bags. Maybe the manufacturing process could be made more efficient though.
